Tomorrow the Cincinnati Reds pitchers and catchers will officially report to spring training. I love this time of year. It won’t be long and I’ll be entertained nightly by the boys of summer. YES!
I walked into February every year with great expectation of what the Reds season will bring. I have swallowed the kool-aid more times than I care to recall, but this year I think we might just have a serious chance to compete. I’m not asking for a World Series Championship or even a playoff appearance. I am simply hoping the Reds will be playing meaningful games in September.
I am hanging my hopes of a couple key realities:
- When was the last time the Reds showed up to spring training with this kind of pitching? It’s been YEARS!
- When was the last time the Reds showed up to spring training with what might be the best young player in baseball? Has that ever been the case?
- When was the last time the Reds showed up to spring training with a few very capable bench players? Okay, we have nailed that one for YEARS!
If the Reds can stay healthy and get some solid production from their young rising stars then September will be a lot of fun. Hoping…
